Philadelphia, PA, August 18, 2006: Living Legend Stanley “Doc” Glenn, of the Negro League Baseball Players Association, gives an intimate and in-depth look at the daily trials and tribulations of a Negro League Baseball Player in his just-released book, Don’t Let Anyone Take Your Joy Away: An Inside Look at Negro League Baseball and Its Legacy.

With wisdom, wit and perspective, 80-year-old Glenn recalls the indignities he and fellow teammates suffered during the days of Jim Crow, a time when they were denied gas for their vehicles and even a decent place to stay as they barnstormed around the country, playing against and alongside some of the greatest baseball players of all time.

Through his blend of poignant remembrances, humorous anecdotes, inspiring words of wisdom and colorful imagery, Glenn skillfully conveys the bittersweet paradox that was the Negro League Baseball experience. Glenn’s story illuminates the strength and determination of Black ball players. They persevered for love of the game despite the forces against them.
